About Fading Heat

August 23 - September 6

During this mini-season, the heat begins to fade, and the sense that autumn is approaching becomes more and more real. In the United States, these two weeks mark the last weeks of summer before the Labor Day Holiday (the first Monday in September). Then, after that, it’s officially back to school, and autumn is well and truly underway. Alexis has a phrase for this time of year – the dregs of summer. You both savor every last drop and a sense that maybe it’s time to brew a fresh pot of coffee for the season ahead. In Japan by this time of year many schools have already started up again, although the beaches remain open. Now is a transitional time when we are all unsure if we should be working or relaxing. The natural world, too, seems in flux.
